'What came first - the music or the misery?'

2000 romantic comedy High Fidelity is next in line for the reboot treatment as a TV-series adaptation featuring a female-lead is reportedly in the works.

As Deadline revealed, the show will deviate slightly from the John Cusack-helmed film and the 1995 Nick Hornby novel on which it was based by centring on a female record store owner talking to the camera and chronicling past relationships.

The series, penned by Ugly Betty writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka, is in early development for Disney's upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service which is also expected to house a Monsters Inc. serial adaptation and a High School Musical reboot.

While the original film was rated R, the female-perspective reimagining is expected to be PG, keeping in line with Disney's plans for a family-friendly streaming platform.
