"I don’t even realise how much I’m about to make a complete muppet of myself, in a good way."
Missy Higgins' is just weeks off dropping her brand new album, Solastalgia; her fifth since she burst onto the scene in 2004 with The Sound Of White.

This is me looking very serious as I listen to the instructions for the start of what would eventually turn out to be a 13 hour shoot. I don’t even realise how much I’m about to make a complete muppet of myself, in a good way. I’m also admiring how sexy this house is and imagining myself living in it.
And the jumpsuit is on! The pregnant belly is (almost) hidden! The dance fest is about to begin. I think at this point I’m perving at how good all the dancer’s bodies are and regretting pulling out of ballet class when I was six years old because I hated tutus.
And… we’re off! I had no idea how to dance before this clip. I still don’t. But somehow they made it look like I knew what I was doing! It’s amazing how being surrounded by professionals can make you look almost competent. I think in this picture I was thinking about all the cheese and pickles I had waiting for me in my dressing room, that’s why I look excited.
While the dancers flew like swans through the air and gracefully swung chairs in arches above me, I was daggy-dancing like my dad in the '70s. "Hey! Hey! Wadda ya say?"
This is the part where I get to act like a boss and push a guy on to the couch like I mean business before he springs back up and slides across the floor like he's straight out of Fame. Then we all do the Egyptian cha-cha, of course.
Yeah, pump it!!! The hair had come down at this point, which as you know means serious business. I was starting to believe that maybe I COULD be Britney Spears in this lifetime if I really worked hard at it. Otherwise known as '12am dancing-delirium'.
Oooooh, so happy with how it’s looking!!! It was hilarious watching myself dance on the little screen. I was having so much fun that the director honestly had to tell me three times to stop smiling so much. I’ve never been told that in my life!!!!! Very stoked with how it turned out.
Higgins is heading out on tour this coming May, and is currently touring around the country in support of Ed Sheeran. Head to theGuide for more info, and check out the Futon Couch video below.
