BBC's streaming arm scored the incendiary series.

Juggernaut Aussie TV series Romper Stomper has been tearing it up at home and now it’s set for Britain with the announcement that BBC3 have picked it up for UK broadcast.

The Stan Original series, a high-stakes crime drama that eerily echo’s real-life political tensions — sequel to the controversial 1992 film of the same name, has been picked up by the iconic British broadcaster's streaming arm to premiere in early 2018.

Romper Stomper was brought to the screen by a world class team telling an Australian story while also addressing important contemporary and global themes,” Stan Chief Content Officer Nick Forward said.

It’s the third Stan-produced show to be picked up by international markets with horror series Wolf Creek being nabbed by UK and US distributors while comedy series No Activity went to Hulu before a US remake was commissioned by CBS.

Romper Stomper itself was previously sold to SundanceTV who will screen it in various European territories and across Latin America.

The news follows on from this week's announcement that Foxtel's remake of Picnic At Hanging Rock will screen at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival later in the year. Set to screen on showtime in Australia this year, it is also to be broadcast by Amazon US, BBC and Canal +.
