What a way to celebrate 40 years.
The Sydney gay and lesbian Mardi Gras may be celebrating its 40th anniversary with its biggest act yet.
According to Fairfax, sources close to the event have said that music legend Cher is almost a lock to perform at next March's event.
Rumours began earlier this month when the 71-year-old singer mysteriously tweeted, "Where am I going in March?"

It follows a tweet Cher published in May which said that she is "hoping" to tour Australia and New Zealand in 2018.

Fairfax also noted that Australian Radio Network published a story last week saying Cher's appearance was confirmed, however it was taken down soon after.
Mardi Gras organisers previously stated that booking Cher for next year's event, taking place on 3 March, was "plan A"; previous performers include George Michael, Tina Arena, Boy George and Cyndi Lauper who appeared at the 30th anniversary.
Cher last toured Australia in 2005 in support of her Living Proof: The Farewell Tour run.
