'Countdown' Is Making A Comeback This NYE & Molly Meldrum Is In On It

Following tribute series screenings this year, iconic music show Countdown is set to make a comeback of sorts this New Year's Eve. 

ABC have confirmed that during its annual NYE broadcast, Countdown Live NYE 2017 will present Countdown Live; a live concert celebrating songs of the show to be welcomed in by host and beloved Aussie music figure, Ian "Molly' Meldrum.

Countdown Live, starting at 9.30pm, will feature performances from the likes of Jimmy Barnes, Phil Jamieson, Colin Hay, Casey Donovan, John Paul Young, Marcia Hines, Kate Ceberano, Ngaiire and Montaigne.

The ABC broadcast, to be hosted by Charlie Pickering, will also feature appearances from comedians Kitty Flanagan and Sammy J.

The news comes as a huge boost for the network after its overage last year was slammed by viewers as a "disaster".

Countdown Live NYE 2017 kicks off from 8.35pm on 31 December and can be viewed on ABC and ABC iview.
