It's a good time to be a Queenslander.
Applications for the 2018 Queensland Music Awards are open and to celebrate QMusic has a metric ton of euphoric announcements concerning the prizes, judges and ceremony for next year’s festivities.
Also opening today are applications the 2018 Billy Thorpe Scholarship - the prestigious award that not only blesses its winner with $10,000 to record with an established producer but also provides priceless mentoring from a Chugg Entertainment representative. Past alum includes AYLA, Jeremy Neale and Sam Hales of The Jungle Giants.
That’s not the only big prize up for grabs this year, traditionally the winner of the QMA Song Of The Year is immortalised on a plaque on Fortitude Valley’s Walk Of Fame. This year, to improve on immortality, the winner will also receive a promotional pack worth $20,000, courtesy of The Music and NOVA 106.9.

The list of judges that will be deciding who receives these awards plus the whole suite of QMAs next year has blown out, including the likes of Sydney City Limit’s Marc Sousley, Sony Music Australia’s Petrina Convey and Amy Jarman of BMG Music Australia.
You would think QMusic would be content with that much exciting news, but the announcements just keep on coming.
After taking over the iconic Brisbane Powerhouse for the last three years, the QMAs have graduated to a new gala format and are making the move to the Royal International Convention Centre which will take place May 2018.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a solo acoustic artist or a five-piece thrash metal outfit, the Queensland Music Awards will have a category for you and if you wanna make it in this biz, you should go enter yourself right now.
Don’t just take it from us, though, follow the advice of six-time QMA nominee Tia Gostelow: “If you are a songwriter, make sure you enter your songs!”
