"I will put everything I have into ensuring the station goes from strength to strength, continues to connect with its core demographic, and is adaptive to the ever changing media environment while staying proudly independent."

FBi Managing Director Clare Holland said she is excited to see what Ahern can bring to the role.

"Throughout the selection process, he showed a sophisticated and exciting vision for what FBi should sound and look like in this shifting landscape," Holland said.

"He's young, creative, smart and talented - he embodies all the things FBi represents."

Ahern will commence the new role from 27 November.
