Tom Petty Confirmed Dead At 66

Band manager has confirmed the rock legend's passing.

Rock legend Tom Petty has died in a Santa Monica hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday night

According to TMZ, Petty's longtime manager, Tony Dimitriades, confirmed that the singer passed away at 8.40 PM PT at UCLA hospital surrounded by friends, family and his bandmates after his family made the decision to take him off life support. 

The celebrated frontman was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest in his Malibu home when he was rushed the hospital.

Though he rose to fame in the '70s with his band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, the Florida-born artist also enjoyed solo success, which included hit track, Free Fallin'.

Other global hit singles from the band include American Girl, I Won't Back Down, Refugee and Breakdown.

Just last week, the group wrapped up their 40th anniversary tour at the Hollywood Bowl in LA.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2002.
