It's the second tune to come from her forthcoming debut LP, 'I Love You Like A Brother'.
Alex Lahey sets off for her eagerly awaited national album tour next month but, before she hits the road, she has a fresh treat in store for her fans by way of new single I Haven't Been Taking Care Of Myself.
The deceptively jaunty tune comes from the singer-songwriter's equally anticipated debut full-length, I Love You Like A Brother, which shares its name with the upcoming tour and is due for release on 6 October through Nicky Boy Records/Caroline Australia.
Unlike most of her other songs, Lahey says, I Haven't Been Taking Care Of Myself turns her focus inward, concerned less with "the relationships that we engage in with other people" than "the relationship that we have with ourselves and how that is reflected in the way we bring others into our lives".
"If you feel shit about yourself, you're generally going to get off on the wrong foot with someone else," she said.

The single has been accompanied by a craftily constructed stop-motion video created by Jam Nawaz and Callum Preston. As tends to be the case with stop-motion, the simplicity of its effect belies the complexity of the process behind its filming; overall, the video took 14 hours to film and uses more than 1800 photographic stills overlaid with Preston's illustrations.
Lahey sets off for her I Love You Like A Brother Tour from 4 October, when she gets under way in Newcastle, hitting Sydney on release day and then moving on to Brisbane, Ballarat, Geelong, Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Fremantle.
