“Emotional, exhausting, and tumultuous."

LA-based indie rocker Colleen Green has been forced to cancel her Australian tour after being detained and deported by Australian immigration for having an incorrect visa.

Green’s tour was scheduled to kick off last night in Byron Bay, but the singer says she was turned away at the border, alleging promoters Bone Soup obtained a tourist visa.

The Sounds Of The Suburbs drawcard detailed the “emotional, exhausting, and tumultuous days” via a lengthy Facebook post.

“The promoter of my Australian tour told me he had secured a visa for me and to just say I'm visiting friends and everything would be fine,” Colleen said.

“I really had no reason to doubt this as I have travelled all over the world to perform and have done so many times under the pretense of ‘tourism’ with no incident.”

While she didn’t have a guitar with her, immigration officers found merch in Colleen’s bags after a “thorough search” and then discovered tour dates online.

After being interrogated, Colleen had her visa cancelled and was escorted to an immigration detention centre where she stayed the night before being put on a flight back to LA the next morning.

“I was told that they've been cracking down really hard over the past year or so, even for minor stuff,” Colleen said.
