AB Original utterly dominated tonight's AIR Awards by picking up five gongs in total.

After kicking off the show, held in Adelaide alongside the inaugural Indie-Con conference, with a live performance, Briggs and Trials went on to take out some of the event's most prestigious awards, including Breakthrough Independent Artist Of The Year, Best Independent Hip Hop Album (Reclaim Australia), Best Independent Single (January 26), Best Independent Artist and Best Independent Album Or EP.

Meanwhile, a number of fellow big Aussie names scored wins, including Violent Soho for Best Independent Hard Rock, Heavy Or Punk Album (WACO), Nick Murphy for Best Independent Dance, Electronica Or Club Single (Stop Me Stop You) and Julia Jacklin for Best Independent Blues & Roots Album (Don't Let The Kids Win).

Melbourne-based label Pieater had reason to celebrate again this year as well, as it took out the coveted Best Independent Label award.

The crowd was also treated to live sets from Russell Morris, who performed Black Dog Blues, and Elizabeth Rose, who sung her 2016-released track, Another Earth.

"It was great to see the Industry turn out in droves to celebrate the success of the Independent sector at the 11th AIR Awards in Adelaide," AIR General Manager, Maria Amata, said.

"So proud of the collaborations with the South Australian Government and our supporting partners that helped us make this all happen and delighted that our first ever Indie-Con Conference was SOLD out."
