Federal MP Hits Out Against Proposed Developments Putting Howler In Danger

5 July 2017 | 9:01 am | Neil Griffiths

“Live music venues like Howler are part of the reason Brunswick has become such a popular place to live, work and play.”

The federal member for Wills, Peter Khalil, has thrown his support behind Brunswick's Howler bar, insisting he will fight proposed new developments at a forthcoming meeting with the local Mayor.

Yesterday, we broke the news that the Howler's future is at serious risk due to plans for new apartments to be built directly next to the live music venue and the proposal has since been met with a wave of negative feedback from the community.

The Australian Labor Party member will address the controversial proposal at the next regular meeting with Helen Davidson and the CEO of Moreland Council, Nerina Di Lorenzo.

"Live music venues like Howler are part of the reason Brunswick has become such a popular place to live, work and play," Khalil said in a statement given to The Music.

"Such an important part of the neighbourhood and it is now at risk. I will also be raising and discussing with council at next opportunity."

Objections to the developments must be submitted by Monday, 10 July. For more details, click here and search the Michael Street address.
