Fresh off the back of a sold-out show at the Sydney Opera House, revered Aussie alt-rockers The Preatures have announced the impending arrival of their second studio full-length, Girlhood, along with a string of headline shows in support of the record.

The album shares its name with the band's most recent single — their second song to be released following the amicable departure of co-founder Gideon Bensen in March last year — and is set to land on Friday 11 August via Island Records.

The band will tout the album throughout September on its eponymous national tour, kicking off at The Forum, Melbourne, before undertaking a trio of all-ages shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. The band kick it back into 18+ gear for the final show of the tour, at The Capitol in Perth.

Girlhood follows The Preatures' ARIA Award-nominated 2014 debut LP, Blue Planet Eyes, and was recorded in Doldrums, the same self-built studio in which they laid down the tracks for their breakthrough EP, Is This How You Feel? (2013).

The new 11-tracker represents the culmination of more than 18 months' work by band members Jack Moffitt, Thomas Champion, Luke Davis and Izzi Manfredi to craft a worthy successor to those early efforts, with assistance from lauded producer Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, Olympia, DMA's), award-winning engineer Eric J Dubowsky (Flume, Nick Murphy) and legendary LA-based mixing engineer Bob Clearmountain (David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, INXS, Divinyls, The Church).

Pre-orders are available now. The band have also just released the video clip for the title track, directed by Joy Collective; you can check it out below.

The Preatures will be joined on their upcoming tour by beloved Sydney duo Polish Club and emergent outfit Hair Die.

Tickets go on sale from 11am next Friday, 9 June; see under the clip for the full spread of dates and details.
