Veteran punk-rock covers supergroup Me First & The Gimme Gimmes will return to Australia for a seven-date national tour this October, their first such run since 2013.

Consequently, the band will take a form not yet seen by local audiences, with founding members Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters, ex-No Use For A Name) and Fat Mike (NOFX) being replaced for the sojourn by The Living End frontman Chris Cheney and Bad Religion bassist Jay Bentley, respectively.

(Bentley has been Fat Mike's regular fill-in for the past few years, though the latter's NOFX bandmate Eric Melvin stood in on the four-string during Me First's 2013 Australian tour.)

They will join OG Gimme Gimmes Spike Slawson (Uke-Hunt, Re-Volts, ex-Swingin' Utters), Joey Cape and Dave Raun (both of Lagwagon fame) for their upcoming string of shows, which kicks off at The Triffid, in Brisbane, and tears through Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne, Geelong, Perth and Adelaide.

With the band's most recent album being 2013's Are We Not Men? We Are Diva! (heh), the visit promises to be a wide-ranging look back at six studio albums, three EPs and more than 20 years of high-energy, punked-up covers of everything from country standards and vintage hits to R&B songs, J-Pop, show tunes and beyond.

Above all, it's guaranteed to be a damn good time, as it always is with this band.

An early-bird presale for Me First & The Gimme Gimmes' 2017 Australian tour will be held from 9am tomorrow, 24 May, so make sure you're signed up at the Select Touring website to get in on that.

General-public tickets go on sale this Friday, 26 May, at 9am via Select Touring.
