WA Premier Mark McGowan has renewed calls to put an end to ticket scalping after some pre-sale tickets to Ed Sheeran's 2018 Australian tour hit resale websites last week for over $1300.
Tickets were listed online within minutes of the pre-sale kicking off and with general public tickets to become available from tomorrow morning, McGowan has reinstated his promise before the WA state election to introduce new laws protecting genuine ticket buyers.
As Perth Now reports, McGowan's proposed laws would see high-demand events declared a "major event" and an offence to resell tickets for a higher cost than the original price, with fines starting from $5000.
"We have consistently argued that ticket scalping rips off genuine fans," McGowan said.

"While there are some circumstances where re-selling tickets is appropriate, we need to crack down on people who seek to make big profits from those who simply want to go to a sporting event or concert."
McGowan was unable to give a time frame on when the laws will be introduced.
Perth Now have also stated that tickets to Sheeran's Perth Stadium show will not be sent to fans until 30 January.
