US Indie-Classical Composer David T Little Brings His Magic To Brisbane Next Week

9 May 2017 | 3:50 pm | Staff Writer

The indie-classical luminary will lead an Australia-first set of songs featuring acclaimed international and local musos

Renowned US orchestral composer and drummer David T Little will touch down on local shores to perform at Compulsion, the next concert in Brisbane's series of post-genre gatherings, Dots+Loops.

To make the occasion extra-special, Little — revered among the indie-classical world for his work with New York ensemble Newspeak — will be joined by bandmate Eileen Mack (clarinet) as well as Australian luminaries Lotte Betts-Dean (soprano), Alex Raineri (piano) and Vanessa Tomlinson (percussion) to perform an Australia-first set of music written for his usual outfit as the headline showing of the night.

On top of the keenly awaited appearance by Little and his talented collaborators, there will be performances from the Melbourne-based piano wizards in the Solstice Trio — they'll be making their debut interstate appearance to perform the world premiere of a new work from Australian composer/singer-songwriter Maja Puseljic, an Australian premiere of an award-winning piece from US composer/pianist Pascal Le Boeuf, and music composed by fellow Melburnian Xani Kolac — and Brisbane indie-chamber heroes Nonsemble, who will be complemented by percussionists Anna Kho and Jamee Seeto to perform Robert Davidson's Above Ground.

Last but not least, the night will be capped off with a DJ set from multi-talented musician and composer Chris Perren (Nonsemble, Mr Maps), appearing under the moniker for his electronic-music project, Software Of Seagulls, while audience and performers alike will be encouraged to hang back and engage in a spot of post-show socialising.
