The annual extravaganza of sight and sound returns in May

Annual multimedia mecca Vivid Sydney has announced its full program for 2017's event, featuring a stacked line-up for its Vivid Music component that includes electro-pop duo Goldfrapp, French two-piece Air — both in exclusive appearances — alongside Australian singer-songwriter Nick Murphy and tonnes more.

The acclaimed artists fill out a bill of more than 250 gigs put on by the likes of previously announced drawcards Fleet Foxes alongside newly named must-sees such as UK songstress Laura Marling, beloved indie vets Dappled Cities (launching their new album, IIIII), celebrated trio Camp Cope, Grammy-winning jazz singer Dianne Reeves and legendary electro artist Paul Mac.

Also on the table are The Avalanches' Since I Left You Block Party featuring DJ Shadow, Briggs and Sampa The Great, experimental jazz lords The Necks, British muso Sampha, Oz-rock vet Mick Thomas (of Weddings Parties Anything), Haitus Kaiyote frontwoman Nai Palm, The Audreys' Taasha Coates and more.

The musical program comprises several elements, including the Opera House's Vivid LIVE program, the Kings Cross-based Vivid KX spread, Carriageworks' "large-scale music and art event" Curve Ball, and City Recital Hall's Metamorphosis — a break from the venue's classical roots that serves "everything from jazz and dance anthems to multisensory masterpieces" — as well as staple favourites such as Heaps Gay, Soul Of Sydney, Purple Sneakers and Tokyo Disco, at The Argyle.

This is, of course in addition to the broader spectacular of sight and sound under Vivid Sydney's purview, including the Vivid Ideas program — more than 200 events that explore "the changing face of the creative industries" and feature a line-up spearheaded by acclaimed international artist Shepard Fairey (the man behind the iconic Barack Obama 'HOPE' design, among others) — as well as the always-enthralling sensory smorgasbord that is Vivid Light.

That program will see a diversity of installations spread across several precincts, including a newly established area at Barangaroo, the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Sydney Opera House, the Museum Of Contemporary Art and more, and it is massive. See the full program here.

Vivid Sydney 2017 will run from Friday 26 May until Saturday 17 June.
