Organisation claim the video was not sponsored by Coopers.

Bible Society Australia has responded to the criticism surrounding its controversial same-sex marriage video, insisting that Coopers Brewery played no part in the making of the clip.

The beer company has been slammed by customers and live music venues who have boycotted the brew altogether, after it teamed up with the organisation for their 200th birthday to "reach even more Australians with God's word".

Venues like The Old Bar in Fitzroy have announced they will not sell Coopers beer anymore while the managers of Sircuit bar yesterday released a video showing them dumping the product in an outside bin.

"Bible Society is entirely responsible for the 'Keeping it Light' video," a statement released yesterday by Bible Society Australia reads.

"It was not sponsored by Coopers. No money has changed hands between Bible Society and Coopers in regards to this campaign.

"Bible Society remains grateful to Coopers for both the release of light beer commemorating our bicentenary and their support through their foundation for the distribution of bibles to the Defence Force and those who need them.

"The interest from the public in this campaign reinforces the message of the video – that it is important for Australians to have respectful conversations about serious issues – 'keeping it light'."

In the last 24 hours, venues like The Hideaway Bar in Surry Hills, Fitzroy's Laundry Bar, Newtown's Union Hotel and The Fitzroy Pinnacle have joined the Coopers boycott.
