"When we made this album — we thought it was career suicide."
Briggs and Trials, as AB Original, have been awarded a whopping $30,000 at the 12th annual Australian Music Prize for Reclaim Australia, for what has been crowned "truly a remarkable album". The pair are the first indigenous artists to have won the historic prize.
Awarded in Melbourne last night, the duo said of the win, "When we made this album — we thought it was career suicide. For us to be afforded this platform with so many listeners is not lost on us. We went all out because we thought it was the last one we'd make. All of this support is igniting us to do another one! We are very grateful."
AB Original join past AMP winners such as Courtney Barnett, Remi, Big Scary and Augie March receiving the prestigious prize from the PPCA.
PPCA's Dan Rosen, said, "It is an honour to present AB Original with a cheque for $30,000 for what was truly a remarkable album and a worthy addition to the growing list of AMP winners that have left their mark on the Australian music scene.
