Start The Rumour Mill For 2018: Laneway Unveils SXSW Party Line-up

The Aussie festival has lined up 10 acts to play its sixth showcase at the Austin summit

St Jerome's Laneway Festival may have given an early indication of some acts it could be courting for next year's tour with the newly unveiled line-up for its sixth party at this month's SXSW event in the US.

The revered annual event has named a diverse array of local and international acts to play its free-with-RSVP showcase in a couple weeks' time, including Aussies Cameron Avery (of POND/Tame Impala) and Seekae's Alex Cameron, plus US indie-rock-pop four-piece Chastity Belt, Pavement co-founder Spiral Stairs, UK outfit The Big Moon, Portland singer-songwriter Alexandra Savior and more.

This is, of course, far from a guarantee that the majority of these acts will end up on 2018's line-up. Historically, only a small number of artists who have played the Laneway SXSW party have gone on to perform at the festival.

Of the 11 acts who played the event's fifth showcase at the music-and-tech summit in 2015, only two — METZ and East India Youth — ended up on the 2016 bill, while 2014's 13-act-strong party bill resulted in three acts for 2015 in Eagulls, Perfect Pussy and SOHN.
