Australian artist Vassy has quite the following in her home country, but if the US music charts are anything to go by, she has an even bigger fan base overseas.

The Darwin-born singer has this month clinched her third #1 on the US Billboard charts with Nothing To Lose — a track she wrote and co-produced with DJ heavyweight, Tiesto

Speaking to The Music from LA, Vassy touched on the steady climb of her song on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, which overtook fellow Aussie Sia and Rihanna last week.

"I saw the gradual support for it," Vassy said.

"I didn't expect it to go number one though, so that’s pretty awesome."

The success it has garnered in the States is about to be put to the test, though, as Nothing To Lose is set to hit Australian radio this week.

"I hope it gets received really well considering I'm Australian! It's a cool record, I like it," Vassy said.

"I like all the stuff that I write obviously, but this record, I really enjoy performing it. It has a really cool feeling about it. I hope it gets embraced."

While collaborating with a name like Tiesto would usually be considered a rare experience, the US-based songwriter has also worked with the likes of David Guetta, Diplo and Benny Benassi, to name a few.

Her first #1 on the chart came in 2013 with We Are Young, followed by Hustlin' in 2014 which featured Dave Audé.

"I'm very honoured to have the success that I've had and to have multi-platinum records with people like Guetta and Tiesto," Vassy told The Music.

"It's so hard out here. To not only be an artist that does well, but also an Australian artist, showing people that you can come from the other side of the world and make your dreams come true.

"Also to inspire other artists back home that you can have success in Australia, but you can also represent Australia and have success worldwide."

Vassy has recently worked on a track with Dutch producer, Afrojack, however there is no release date set for the song as yet.

She will make her way back to Australia in the coming weeks for a promotional tour.

"I'll be coming out there… kind of to reconnect with the folks back home because my life is here in the States," she said.

"I've been away from Australia for a while so it will be really nice to come home and share what I've been doing with my own country.

"It started there and to be able to share it and hopefully be embraced by my country again will be really wonderful. I really look forward to that."
