Hear A New Track From Dot Hacker Ahead Of Third Album 'No3'

'C-Section' is the first and only taste to have come from the impending release

California-based experimental luminaries Dot Hacker are all primed for the release of their aptly titled third studio full-length, No3, this month, preceding its arrival with new track C-Section, receiving its debut Australian airing today.

In typically subversive style, the new cut goes well beyond the usual pop framework to stretch out to a six-and-a-half-minute-long slow-burn peppered with evocative, intelligent use of dynamics and reverb. The song thus builds an intricate yet accessible soundscape of polished and ethereal experimental-rock bliss, the lead vocals of frontman Josh Klinghoffer oscillating in and out of focus as the track persists, peaks and passes by.

Give it a burl below.

The track has already been out for a little while overseas but, with the new album set to land in just a couple of weeks' time now, it seemed an apt opportunity to highlight C-Section as the first and, to date, only taster to have been lifted from the record.

However, there's no guarantee that, even with additional singles to inform it, any incomplete impression would be an accurate representation of the wider full-length — after all, Nowas recorded in sporadic bursts over 18 months or so from late 2014 to mid-2016, and "as usual, reflects a group of people who get the chance to create together in little energetic bursts", Klinghoffer said.

Arriving about two-and-a-half years on from their two-part second album, How's Your Process? (part one, Work, was released in July 2014, with part two, Play, following in October that year), Dot Hacker's new album, No3, will be released locally on Friday 27 January via Smack Face Records.
