Ouch.

More Rove McManus More Rove McManus

2Day FM's latest experiment with Sydney breakfast has again failed, with news today that Rove & Sam have been taken off the coveted spot.

It was hoped the pairing of McManus with The Bachelorette winner could help bring the ratings back up, which has struggled since the departure of Kyle & Jackie O back in 2014, however the duo has remained at the bottom of the ratings for FM stations.

From 30 January, Rove & Sam will host a nightly national show on the station from 7pm-8pm, Monday to Friday.

"One of the pleasures of 2016 has been working with Sam so I am looking forward to continuing working with her in 2017 at a more civilized time of day," McManus said of the news.

Frost added, "I’m pleased to move on with my friend Rove to our next gig, as well as undertake other commitments outside of radio."

The news follows rumours that McManus is planning a return to late night TV and will soon call it quits, however Head of Content, Gemma Fordham, said that is not the case.

"Rove McManus and Sam Frost continue to be key members of The Hit Network with their national show which will have a larger focus on entertainment content," Fordham said.

Taking on the 2Day FM breakfast slot from 23 January is Aussie comics, Em Rusciano and Harley Breen, which is to be titled, The Em Rusciano Radio Show with Harley Breen.

Having just stepped off the summer breakfast show and Sunday night program, Rusciano said of the appointment, "I'm excitified at the thought of hosting breakfast radio in Sydney, that's a combination of my two resting states: excited and terrified.

"I love radio, I’ve been in and out and in and out again for 12 years! I'm like the herpes of radio… wait, I probably don’t want those words near my name for all of time do I? This job is the holy grail, the philosopher’s stone — the one ring of Mordor! I'm bringing along one of my favourite comics and humans: Harley Breen and together we hope to excitify Sydney."
