US actor and rapper Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) is heading to Australia later this month for Falls Festival and he'll no doubt be in good spirits after he was today nominated for Best Performance By An Actor In A Television Series - Musical Or Comedy for his new show, Atlanta.

Glover will have his work cut out for him however, as he'll be going up against Hollywood heavyweight Nick Nolte (Graves) and previous Golden Globe winner, Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent).

The FX-screened series has also been nominated in the Best Television Series - Musical Or Comedy category.

Elsewhere, US actress-turned-pop-star Hailee Steinfeld picked up a nomination for Best Performance By An Actress In A Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy for The Edge Of Seventeen.

Upcoming musical La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, looks to be this year's favourite, picking up seven nods including Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, while Sing Street has also been selected in the category.

Veteran '80s composer Gary Clark put together most of the film's original music, while works from names such as The Cure, Motorhead and Duran Duran are also featured.

The 74th Golden Globe Awards are to be held in California on 8 January.
