"I can't express enough how grateful I am to this overwhelming generosity."

Perhaps what makes the WA music scene such an incubator for talent are its close-knit support systems and generosity, both of which are on full display as musicians, friends and family rally behind revered local musician Steve "Gibbo" Gibson following news he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer.

A GoFundMe campaign set up to help alleviant the stress and burden of medical bills has been backed by a number of WA acts, including The Waifs, Ralway Bell, The Kill Devil Hills (of which he was the former drummer) and more.

“Gibbo needs a helping hand, and he doesn’t like to ask for anything unless it’s a lift home from the pub! So I’ve decided to for him,” reads the campaign’s description.

"I can't express enough how grateful I am to this overwhelming generosity, all the donations are so valued," Gibson said in response earlier today.

"Please know that the panic we initially felt has been replaced with something close to relief and I love you all for giving my family that."

Gibson will undergo chemotherapy over the next few months, followed by major surgery. At the time of writing, 226 backers had raised $15,895 of $25k goal.

A prolific musician in the state, Gibson has played for numerous acts and is the current drummer for The Wasted Sons and guitarist/vocalist for Los Porcheros.
