Scalpers Now Taking The Piss - $4K For Adele Tickets

To add insult to injury, scalpers are now taunting Adele fans who missed out on tickets earlier today by listing passes for as much as $4K on resale websites.

Social media was flooded earlier today with fans who had spent hours on Ticketek and Ticketmaster, both of which were crashing due to extreme demand for tickets to the debut Aus tour from UK star.

Many dedicated fans missed out due to scalpers swooping in and grabbing thousands of tickets to resell for an insane profit; a problem that is syphoning billions of dollars out of the entertainment industry.

There are now thousands of tickets to shows around the country listed on resale sites like Viagogo for several thousand dollars, one seller listing four passes to Adele’s show in WA at $4,146.71 each when the maximum ticket price was originally $308.77.

The latest uproar from fans follows on from scalpers making easy work of Crowded House’s reunion tour and Jerry Seinfeld’s 2017 return.

Price gouging is running rampant on ticket resale sites, with fans and more calling for the government to take action like the UK and Italy have in recent months.

The secondary ticket market in the UK is on the brink of collapse, thanks to the FanFair Alliance, which was set up by a number of managers and artists to stand against industrial-scale online ticket touting.

Music Glue CEO and Alliance member Mark Meharry told theMusic.com.au that, unless the government steps in, the Australia entertainment industry is at risk of becoming “elite, with only the rich being able to afford to go to gigs.”

“We are allowing billions syphoned out of the industry. Scalpers are not part of the creative economy and none of the money they make is going back into the creative economy,” he said.
