"Watching Roy crack tears & yell out the names of people donating has almost made this robbery set back worthwhile."
Sydney muso Alex Cameron is playing shows over in Europe at the moment and, in a cruddy echo of misfortune that befell Melbourne's Dream On Dreamer in Milan, his saxophonist and creative other half, Roy Molloy, had his instrument stolen while far away from home.
In a positive turn of events, however, less than a day later he had received more than enough money in donations from online supporters to replace it.
Molloy was separated from his cherished and frankly necessary instrument in Amsterdam when an unidentified individual broke into the pair's touring car and made off with it along with Molloy's passport and a suitcase containing Cameron's clothes and some cash.
As if the incident itself wasn't bad enough, it comes at arguably one of the worst possible times for the duo — midway through an international tour, and an extensive one at that.

Writing on a GoFundMe page set up at the time to replace the lost sax and belongings, Molloy explained he had checked the local markets and spoke to the police to no avail, being told it had "likely gone to another city to be sold cheap and quick, and that it would likely never turn up".
"There's a tiny part of me that's glad someone else is going to get to use my sax," Molloy wrote. "Maybe it'll be a little girl.
"There's another small part of my being thinking that whoever stole it did it out of desperation, or that they'll simply go to a deep part of hell."
Molloy put a plea out to the internet the day after the break-in and, within 19 hours, had received $2831 in donations, a solid shot more than their goal of $2000.
The fact that Molloy and Cameron have endured the pits of human action halfway around the world is truly terrible but, as the latter posted on Twitter once the duo had reached their goal: "Watching Roy crack tears & yell out the names of people donating has almost made this robbery set back worthwhile."
At least they're keeping in good spirits about the whole thing, and appear to have done so pretty much throughout the entire ordeal. Behold:
It's true. Thieves are not even interested in stealing our album. pic.twitter.com/3mzonWYbYV

FYI Roy also had his passport stolen & I lost a suitcase with clean underwear & dirty cash
Cameron and Molloy's tour heads to Sweden next, and they've still got shows to knock over in Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands and the UK — and then an entirely new leg over in the US that takes them through to early December.
So, seriously — props to everyone who rose up to the occasion and helped the boys out.
Dream On Dreamer haven't been quite so fortunate — at the time of today's writing, they're still just under $1400 shy of their $8000 goal, so if you'd like to help them get home, you can do so here.
Also, special mention to Twitter user @Crushfield_ for this utter gift of a tweet throughout these dark times. You're the real MVP.
