'It was almost demanded this year.'

Music and sport fans around the country rejoiced this week when it was announced that (finally) this year's AFL grand final entertainment will be headed up heavyweight Aussie acts in The Living End and Vance Joy.

Appearing on Sunrise on Friday morning, The Living End frontman Chris Cheney echoed many Aussies' opinions on the subject, saying the event should be headlined by an all-local line-up.

"I think maybe a few years back people weren’t as concerned about having an all Australian line-up," Cheney said.

"But I think this is really an amazing thing that it was almost demanded this year. I think it just shows how strong the Australian talent is.

"We just don’t need overseas people to help make the event any better."

Over the past two years, the AFL has signed on major international talent including Ellie Goulding, Bryan Adams, Chris IsaakEd Sheeran and Tom Jones for the gig.

"I think [the AFL] did get it right," the 41-year-old vocalist continued.

"If you’re a Melbourne band, you’d sort of dream maybe you’d play the Corner Hotel one day, if you’re lucky. So to be playing the grand final, this is really special to us."

As for any advice he may have for fellow headliner Vance Joy?

"Maybe get an amplifier for your ukulele perhaps."
