“We’ll only play this set list three times on the whole world tour."
In what can only be described as a beautiful juxtaposition, prolific Swedish metal titans Opeth will bring their highly-anticipated new album, Sorceress, and old hits to Sydney Opera House next year.
The band’s twelfth studio album (dropping Sept 30) will see them embark on a world tour that will take in iconic venues, consuming New York’s Radio City Music Hall in October, London’s Wembley Arena in November before hitting Sydney Opera House on Feb 6.
On their quest to dominate the historic structures, they’ll also be reminiscing on their own past work, with the Deliverance & Damnation boxset release promising a dedicated set of old classics before the new material surfaces.
No other Aussie dates have been confirmed, but from comments by frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt, it’s sounding like even if they do add a national tour around it, the additional dates won’t compare to the Opera House gig.

“We’ll only play this set list three times on the whole world tour, so if you miss it, you’ll have missed it,” Åkerfeldt said.
“Of course, all other shows will be treated with the same amount of respect and we’ll chisel out a nice diverse set list spanning over our entire career for every single show during the tours.”
Exclusive Sydney Opera House presale – eligible to those who pre-register - kicks off next Tuesday, Aug 23, at 2pm AEST, with general public tickets on sale Fri 26.
