Ahead of Baz Luhrmann's new hip hop-focused Netflix series The Get Down dropping today, acclaimed British soul musician Michael Kiwanuka sat down with local hip hop artist Tuka to talk about his work on the show.

Kiwanuka talks being asked to work with rapper Nas on remixes of Kiwanuka's own 2016 songs Black Man In A White World and Rule The World, as well as bringing back the disco genre.

"I got an email from Baz Luhrmann and he was like, 'I wanna use your tracks', and he was like, 'do you mind if Nas is on it?'" Kiwanuka laughs.

The Get Down's first season features 12 one-hour episodes on the rise of disco and hip hop in the streets of 1977 New York City, with a cast including Jaden Smith, Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito and more.
