Hear the simply gorgeous 'The Water' right now

Emergent Brisbane/Byron Bay trio Moreton are only just releasing their debut single, The Water, to the masses, but the strength of their inaugural output alone has seen them be welcomed into the fold as the newest signing to esteemed local label Create/Control.

The Water was officially premiered on triple j's Home & Hosed last night, its spacious and downtempo vibes yielding an unexpected immediacy in their impact. Vocalist/guitarist Georgia dominates the central soundscape, her ethereal voice and reverb-soaked guitar lines providing lilting, melodic interplay atop echoing, splash-dappled drums and patient, rolling bass work.

Produced with assistance from renowned local Matt Redlich (Holy Holy, Emma Louise), The Water is not the typical sort of fist-pumpin' jindie-rock hit that usually gets favoured by the radio station, but it is an utterly sublime, evocative, yet wholly tranquil experience; more a meandering, delayed sense of gratification than direct and instant relief — and all the more a pleasure to listen to for it.

Give The Water a burl below to hear the gorgeousness for yourself, and keep your ears firmly to the ground for news on upcoming live shows and additional releases from the Moreton camp in the near future. If this layered, mature and confident debut single is any indication, we've only just begun to uncover the doubtlessly plentiful delights this band has to offer.
