Featuring some of the venue's favourite musical acts
It's such a fixture of Brisbane's live music scene these days that it's a little bit hard to believe it's already been a full year since staunch venue The Foundry (re)launched to the public.
At least somebody is keeping score, though, as the venue announces this morning that it will be throwing a massive first-birthday party next month with the help of some of their favourite friends, proudly presented by The Music.
Heading up the charge of acts set to bring the celebration in spades will be the trademark mayhem of long-time buds Velociraptor, who were part of the venue's launch line-up the first time around. They'll be backed up across both front and back stages of the venue by electro-chill luminary Golden Vessel, the dream-pop goodness of Yuuca, genre-bending jazz-dappled future-hop noise-makers Astro Travellers and the punk-drenched strains of down-to-earth DIYers Straight Arrows and Whalehouse. Meanwhile, DJ sets from beloved local crew The Jensens (and more to be announced) will keep the good vibes flowing from 11.30pm till our state-enforced bedtime.
The party has all the makings of being an absolute corker, but that shouldn't come as a massive surprise at this advent, with The Venue having played host to a thoroughly impressive list of artists and events over the past 12 months, from wildly successful standalone gigs for the likes of Floating Points, Last Dinosaurs, Montaigne, The Belligerents and Airling to being a core part of the venue collabs responsible for the mini-meccas of The Blurst Of Times festival and the inaugural Mountain Goat Valley Crawl — not to mention the occasional utterly off-the-hook afterparty *cough*Tame Impala*cough*Laneway*cough*.

The Foundry has always seen itself as being more than 'just' a venue, however (not that there's anything wrong with that), and its contributions to the cohesion of the city's music community bear mentioning in the lead-up to its birthday, too; with Foundry Studios residents encompassing a broad array of perspectives from across the industry, including artist managers, PR, festivals, record labels, bands, media (including The Music's Brisbane office) and a rock'n'roll accountant, it's well and truly asserted itself as not only a core live music venue, but an integral part of the wider scene.
If you'd like to help team celebrate the venue's first birthday and take in some killer live tunes while you're at it, get along to The Foundry on Thursday 18 August. Tickets are available now through Oztix.
