And their debut album re-charts
The Avalanches have landed their first number one album in Australia today as their Wildflower set also went top ten in the UK.
The much-hyped return — it has been sixteen years since the Melbourne outfit's debut Since I Left You peaked at #21 in their home country — has landed the Melbourne outfit with their highest charting album to date. The band's debut also returned to the top 50 this week, leaping from 58 to 25.
It was shaping up to be a tight race but The Avalanches managed to see off Delta Goodrem's Wings Of The Wild to the second spot in this week's ARIA Albums Chart.
Other albums to debut in the chart today are: Blank Face LP by Schoolboy Q (in at nine); Ellipsis by Biffy Clyro (#15); Where The Light Shines Though by Switchfoot (#34); IV by Badbadnotgood (#54); Cheetah EP by Aphex Twin (#63); The North Corridor by Chevelle (#69); Take Her Up To Monto by Roisin Murphy (#73) and Missy EP by Missy Lancaster (#81).

This week's chart also saw spikes for childhood nostalgia as Play School's 50 Best Songs compilation bulleted from 23 to 17, reaching its highest position so far in its five weeks charting — thanks to last Sunday's high rating 50th anniversary special. And, on the back of the original line-up reunion gig in Melbourne selling out in fifteen minutes, The Wiggles' The Best Of bullets back up to 19 from 26.
In the Singles Chart, The Veronicas remain number one with In My Blood while Illy's collab with Vera Blue, Papercuts, is the week's highest new local entry at #37 (only LA hip hopper DJ Mustard debuted higher, in at #36 with Don't Hurt Me, featuring Nicki Minaj and Jeremih.
