Game Of Thrones & Other Shows With A Ridiculously Good Soundtrack This Year

Music makes TV.

We know, we know – you still aren’t over the season six finale of Game Of Thrones; the suspense, the cliffhangers, the wildfire sequence and that devastating fact you have to wait 12 months until next season. But also, WHAT ABOUT THAT FREAKING SCORE? Has there been any better in recent memory?

Possibly not. But here are some other memorable tracks that featured in TV shows this year that damn near made the episode.

Orange is the new black

Look, if you aren’t talking about GoT this week then you’re probably gossiping about the latest season of OITNB. The Netflix drama has an awesome habit of matching its end credits with the theme of the episode and they were bang on the money yet again with episode seven's pick, Izabo’s Cook Me.

Without dropping any spoilers, let’s just say this – Piper and swastika. You figure out the rest.

Girls

HBO series Girls kicked off its fifth season earlier this year with US songwriter Benny Hester’s 1972 track No The End Is Not Near. Ironic, considering the show will air its sixth and final season next year. Either way, the song gives a perfect start to what was an awesome season.

Love

If you haven’t seen the Judd Apatow-produced Love on Netflix by now, do yourself a favour. Considering how awkward and easily-intimidated lead character Gus can be around people, it’s always fun to see him let loose when music is involved. Even if that means making up fake theme songs for movies while getting drunk and high with your friends.

Adventure Time

Who’d have thought a Cartoon Network show would have picked up on a Mitski song? That’s precisely the case here as one of Adventure Time’s main characters, Marceline, performs a rendition of the New York-based artist’s 2014 track, Francis Forever.

Fun fact: cartoon characters can bust out some sweet covers.

Flaked

If you’ve heard anything about Flaked other than the fact that it stars Arrested Development star Will Arnett, then you’ve probably heard how good the first season's soundtrack is.

And if there’s a song that sums up Arnett’s character, Chip, then its Kurt Vile’s Pretty Pimpin’. Mark this one down as another must-binge-on-Netflix show.
