Off the back of the shitstorm that is every time Eddie McGuire and Sam Newman open their mouths, particularly recently about sports journalist Caroline Wilson, Melbourne band The Pretty Littles have just released a new song called Sam's Mob.

Finding its home on the band's upcoming album this September, the band's singer Jack Parsons says, "Sam’s Mob is about disappointment with the status quo. About the power some people wield for the wrong reasons. About people defending their right to make other people feel shit. About protecting the sanctity of a game they are actually destroying. About the effects this has on our failing country. About wasting energy. Sam’s Mob is a song about waste."

The song arrives as the nation continues to discuss McGuire's sexist and violent comments on Triple M about drowning Wilson in the ice pool at the Big Freeze, and Newman's consequent defense of McGuire. Newman said on the AFL Footy Show this week, "The jig's up Caro, honestly and truly. You're becoming an embarrassment. And even if you were underwater, you'd still be talking."

The Pretty Littles write, "Whether you think Eddie's comments were gendered or not, they were innately violent and were a gross insight into the redneck majority of Australia.

"AFL is an absolute fishbowl and its merit as 'news' is an unfortunate reality. Just how threatened these fellas are by Caro as an investigative journalist is fantastic. Pack of cowards. All Of 'Em."
