Even the UK appreciate the importance of Sounds Australia

More Sounds Australia More Sounds Australia

Despite being omitted in the recent round of Catalyst arts grants by the federal government, and upsetting thousands in the industry in the process, live music export body Sounds Australia has yet again proved what an invaluable addition to the Australian music industry it is by picking up two music industry award nominations in the UK.

Known for its presence at Brighton's Great Escape Festival, this year sending over Aussies Cub Sport, Gordi, Boo Seeka, City Calm Down, Gang Of Youths and more, Sounds Australia has picked up two nominations at the Yearly Music Convention Awards (YMCAs) — one for Best Showcase for The Aussie BBQ and another for Best Export Office.

The nominations are no surprise given Sounds Australia offers a slew of Australia's best a chance to crack the UK market, through showcases like The Aussie BBQ and Sound Gallery. This year's The Great Escape runs from 19 to 21 May.

A petition was made out to Minister For The Arts Mitch Fifield a few days ago asks the government to reconsider their funding cuts to Sounds Australia, outlining the body's achievements in recent years.

"We desperately needed this service before it was founded, but such has been its impact that our industry simply cannot function on the global stage without these people and this service in place. I urge you to #SaveOurSounds — and work with us to find funding for Sounds Australia," wrote talent manager Laura Wallbridge.
