"The idea was to find more obscure soul songs that people may not have heard – the diamonds in the rough."
Jimmy Barnes has dropped a corker of a Mother's Day announce this morning, with the news that the rocker will be releasing a new soul album this June, the fourth instalment of his Soul Searchin' documentary series and a huge tour to tie it all together this August.
The album and documentary — both titled Soul Searchin' — will be revealed in early June, with Barnesy's documentary airing on the 9 Network nationally and the album, recorded in Nashville, out on June 3. The hour-long special will follow the Cold Chisel frontman as he traipses through the southern states of America. It'll also match thematically to the new record in its exploration of soul music, following 1991's Soul Deep, 2000's Soul Deeper and 2009's The Rhythm & The Blues.
"The idea was to find more obscure soul songs that people may not have heard – the diamonds in the rough. I was just looking and looking for songs that for one reason or another were skipped over or they were too hard for radio or the singer was cross-eyed – for whatever reason, these songs were missed. I can’t wait to get to sing these songs again when I take them on tour. It will be wild," says Barnes.
The six-date tour will kick off in Adelaide on 12 August before heading to Perth, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, with Barnes bringing along a full soul ensemble to really bring Soul Searchin' to life.
