Prince's Music Bursts Back Onto Global Charts Following Singer's Death

It was only yesterday the world was stunned by the shocking news of Prince's death and while latest reports suggest the autopsy has been completed though results are still weeks away, the late singer's music has burst back onto a number of iTunes charts around the world, confirming just how iconic he truly was. 

In Australia, five Prince albums currently occupy the top ten of the iTunes Albums chart, lead by 2001 compilation The Very Best Of Prince at #1, 1984 classic Purple Rain in #2.

Other inclusions include 2006 compilation Ultimate (#3), Diamonds & Pearls (#5) and 1999 (#9).

On the local iTunes Singles Chart, some of Prince's biggest hits also now feature in the top ten including When Doves Cry, Purple Rain and Little Red Corvette.

The figures are simply astounding in Prince's home country, as 14 albums from his extensive catalogue currently occupy the top 20 of the US iTunes Albums chart

The top two standings are identical to the Australian charts, while other records included in the top 20 are Controversy, Dirty Mind and the 1989 Batman soundtrack. 

The US iTunes Singles chart is even more impressive as Prince works occupy the entire top ten, while an overall 16 tracks cover the top 20. 

Fan favourite Purple Rain leads the way at #1, followed in order by Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Kiss, Let's Go Crazy, 1999, Raspberry Beret, I Would Die 4 U, Purple Rain for a second time (off the 2001 compilation album) and Darling Nikki.

The UK iTunes Albums chart showed similar results to Australia, with six Prince albums in the top ten, while five songs now sit in the top ten of the Singles chart.
