Veteran US punk outfit MxPx have announced their Australian tour scheduled for next month has been cancelled and are claiming that a lack of communication from the promoters, which can be revealed as The Drunk Promoter, is the reason behind the shows being axed.

In a video posted to the band's Facebook page, frontman and bassist Mike Herrera explains that the co-headliner for the Aussie tour, fellow US act Screeching Weasel, were forced to pull out of the trip and after some last minute scrambling, they were able to recruit California rockers Zebrahead in their place.

However, Herrera alleges that after contacting promoters about the change, "We heard nothing back".

"We really, really had it all set up and ready to go. We were doing this tour," a visibly dejected Herrera said.

"I wrote the promoters an email, like a personal email, which I’ve never done and was just like, 'We can do this. Let me do all the work for you. People bought plane tickets, people are ready for this thing. MxPx has been going to Australia for years and years and years. This will be a success, it’s going to be great.' But I heard nothing, so we had to cancel.

"I’m sorry for you guys left hanging.

"We want to hold the promoters to the fire and make sure everyone gets their money back…sincerely apologise due to all the reasons out of our control and there's still a lot of unanswered questions right now, I realise that, but I'm sorry."

Speaking to theMusic today, The Drunk Promoter's Glenn Stewart denies not communicating with the band.

"We did email them, we just didn't want to do a different tour at such short notice," Stewart said.

Stewart claims to have sent the below message to MxPx regarding making changes to the tour line-up.

"After discussing this with everyone involved we decided that given the headlining band has pulled out we thought it would be too messy to add in bands, change the tour, and try to make all this work at such short notice.

"We think that venues, ticket price and marketing would all need to be reworked and a one month turn around is too risky for us. We appreciate the amount of effort MxPx and yourself have put in to try and make this work."
