"I got it from sitting in a race car too long without ear plugs."
When AC/DC revealed yesterday that frontman Brian Johnson would be facing "total hearing loss" (as told by his doctors) if he continued touring, fans were shocked by the severity of his hearing issues.
Turns out Johnson was aware of the hearing loss back in November 2014, when he told American radio host Howard Stern that his hearing loss was not from music but actually racing cars.
"I’ve obviously had some hearing loss," Johnson said. I’ve got hearing loss in me left ear.
"I didn’t get it from music. I got it from sitting in a race car too long without ear plugs. I heard my ear drum burst, because I forgot to put me plugs in under my helmet. That’s how it happened. Music had nothing to do with it."

He says he got dizzy from the inner ear damage and found blood dripping from his ear when he removed his helmet.
Johnson has long been a car and racing enthusiast, having amassed a collection of classic cars and racing vintage cars himself.
The 68-year-old has now been forced to cancel all remaining shows on the US Rock Or Bust tour, with the band reportedly rescheduling the tour with a guest vocalist.
The announcement has made many wonder whether the call from his doctors has caused Johnson to quit the band completely.
