"It's time to try some new ideas."
After six successful years, the annual Perth Beaufort Street Festival is shutting down.
As WA Today reports, the festival’s growth to a steady 150,000 punters a year means it’s now too expensive to maintain, costing around $500,000 every time it rolls around.
The not-for-profit Beaufort Street Network confirmed in a statement today the festival would not take place this year, with spokesperson Pam Herron saying they would be focusing their efforts elsewhere.
"Funding the festival each year is challenging, particularly for a non-profit community organisation in the current economic conditions," she said.

"The Network may relaunch a smaller community celebration in future years…it's time to try some new ideas. We're planning a number of events throughout the year and looking at other ways we can create a better Beaufort Street."
Starting in 2010, Beaufort Street Festival was one of Australia’s biggest street festivals, bringing a wealth of food, drinks, art, music and more to the area each November.
