QMAs Unveil 2016 People's Choice Finalists & Best Album Nominees

More finalists for the fast-approaching Queensland Music Awards have been named, with a handful of young artists unveiled on the People’s Choice Awards nominee list and an Album Of The Year shortlist confirmed.

Earlier this month, Eves The Behavior, Velociraptor, Violent Soho, Avaberée, Caligula's Horse, Sahara Beck and more scored nominations in different categories, and now the talent pool widens.

The past year has seen a wealth of talent in terms of Queensland releases, and from massive list of music industry-nominated releases, six albums made the shortlist:

Blank Realm - Illegals In Heaven
Last Dinosaurs - Wellness
Robert Forster - Songs To Play
The Stress of Leisure - Achievement
Troy Cassar-Daley - Freedom Ride

The People’s Choice Awards nominees include Most Promising Male, Most Promising Female and Most Promising Songwriting Team and were hand picked by a wealth of previously announced respected industry figures that included local and international artists, producers, label reps, booking agents, managers, publicists, radio personalities and more.

Each nominee on the People’s Choice Awards list has been on the scene for less than three years, has not had high rotation radio play or charted in the ARIA Top 200, and, according to QMusic’s Executive Officer Joel Edmondson, shows extreme promise.

“The Queensland Music Awards has a long history of unearthing previously unknown artists that go on to do great things,” Edmondson said.

“Many of the nominees in this year’s Most Promising Categories are finalists in the genre categories, which proves they’re already punching above their weight.”

The 2016 People’s Choice Awards nominees are:

The above emerging artists are now in the running for a prize pool worth $4000, thanks to the folk at Bank Of Queensland.

Voting for those three categories is now live and will be open until midnight March 7. Have your say right here and go in the draw to win a double pass to the awards ceremony, which is set to go down at Brisbane Powerhouse on Monday 21 March.

The awards night will feature performances from The Belligerents, Ayla, Astro Travellers and more, with tickets on sale via the event's website.
