Violent Soho, The Bennies & Other Hottest 100 Acts Re-enter Aussie Indie Charts

The impact of triple j's Hottest 100 is being felt across the Carlton Dry Independent Music Charts, with several acts that placed in this year's countdown seeing re-entries or healthy boosts to existing placers on the ladder.

The result is most apparent across the Singles ladder, where incumbent #1 Never Be Like You, by Flume (ft. Kai) retains its position ahead of the upward-bound Hoops, by The Rubens, which rides its Hottest 100 victory from #5 to #2. Fellow top-10 effort The Trouble With Us, by Marcus Marr & Chet Faker, slips a rung as a result, down to #3 this week. Vance Joy follows a similar trajectory as Fire & The Flood falls a couple of spots to #5, while Sia makes her way in the other direction — Cheap Thrills is up from #7 to #4. The platinum-wigged chanteuse is also responsible for the week's sole debut single in Unstoppable, which sneaks into the top 10 at #9, just below previous entry Alive, at #8. Meanwhile, the countdown results have been something of a lifeline for Meg Mac — Never Be has bounced back from the outskirts at #19 last week to settle nicely inside the top 10 once again, hitting #7 in the wake of her #11 result in the Hottest 100.

It's not just the pointy end, though — Violent Soho, who nabbed #15 on the Hottest 100 with their recent single Like Soda, see that cut make its re-entry bang on the top-10 singles cut-off this week, while fellow placer Long Loud Hours, by Urthboy (ft. Bertie Blackman) stays strong at #11. The Bennies' Party Machine — also one of the nation's favourite 100 songs of last year — rears its head inside the top 20 once more at #12, while fellow Hottest 100 placers Vallis Alps, Hayden James and Japanese Wallpaper also return with their respective releases Young (#16), Something About You (#17) and Japanese Wallpaper (EP, #19).

There's less upheaval in the full-length rankings, where Bill Chambers' Cold Trail makes the only debut of the list at #18, sandwiched between re-entries from Gurrumul (The Gospel Album, #17) and Sia (We Are Born, #19); the Chandelier hitmaker also holds the silver for the week as 1000 Forms Of Fear stays steady at #2. Courtney Barnett's AMP-nominated Sometimes I Sit & Think, & Sometimes I Just Sit also retains its position, atop the pile at #1 once again.

The top five LPs of the week are rounded out by familiar faces Hermitude (Dark Night, Sweet Light, #3), The Waifs (Beautiful You, up four spots to #4) and Seth Sentry (Strange New Past, #5), while making solid headway this week are Flight Facilities (Down To Earth, up five spots to #6), The John Butler Trio (Grand National, up four spots to #8), San Cisco (Gracetown, up seven spots to #12) and The Waifs, whose previous album Up All Night is back in the mix at #14.
