The Aussie musos are the sole antipodeans to crack the international ranks of the Brit-centric prizegiving
Acclaimed Aussie artists Courtney Barnett and Tame Impala have cracked the ranks of the UK-centric Brit Awards, picking up a nomination each in the annual prizegiving's international categories, it has been announced.
Barnett scored her nomination in the category of International Female Solo Artist, staring down competition from the likes of Ariana Grande, Bjork, Lana Del Rey and Meghan Trainor, while Tame Impala is up against Alabama Shakes, Eagles Of Death Metal, Major Lazer and U2 for their shot at the International Group category. Unfortunately, no Aussies made the cut for International Male Solo Artist, in which Drake, Father John Misty, Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd will battle it out for top honours.
Beyond our antipodean focus, it's clear that the big favourites heading into this year's Brit Awards are Years & Years, James Bay and, naturally, Adele, all of whom picked up four nominations apiece, while Calvin Harris and Jess Glynne aren't that far off the mark, garnering three nominations each.
The full list of nominees is below (via Billboard). The 2016 Brit Awards will be held on Wednesday 24 February at 02 Arena, London.
