The acclaimed director has been sitting on this one for some time.

Leading to the nation-wide release of his latest film The Hateful Eight, acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino has revealed that one of the ideas for his next movie would be set in Australia.

Speaking to theMusic in Sydney, the 52-year-old filmmaker discussed the potential future project; "I do have an idea for an Australian film that would take place in Australia, probably take place around the ‘30s or something."

While he opted to not go into too much detail for fear that it would convince him not to do the movie, Tarantino admits he is reminded of the idea each time he visits Australia.

"Every time I'm here, I get renewed with ideas," he laughs, adding, "We'll see what happens."

Fans of the Academy Award-winning director have paid close attention to his movements, given his claim in recent years that he will walk away from film after making ten movies and given that The Hateful Eight is his eighth project, there have been rumours as to what the final two could be, including a potential horror film and even a third installment to his successful Kill Bill franchise.

Though he says that the horror film concept "isn't very concrete at all", he admits that if he were to come up with a new idea after his proposed ten movies it would be hard to not make it.

"To be truthful, if I stop at ten or if I stop at a certain number, boom, that’s it. The filmography stands and now I go off and I do plays or I write books or I do whatever I do," he explains.

"If 20 years after that or 15 years after that last movie and at the least it would have to be ten years after that last movie, if I come up with something that I think would be a really terrific movie and I still want to make a movie, I probably would do it, frankly to tell you the truth."

"I'm not gonna not do it because I said I wouldn't. I actually think…as far as the rules are concerned, there's wiggle room a little bit because if I did stop at ten and then I made another movie much older ten years later, those ten would kind of be what they were. There would be a legitimate separation between them."

Meanwhile his latest film, touted as a 'Western whodunnit' was nominated for three Academy Awards today including Best Cinematography, Best Supporting Actress (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and Best Original Score by Ennio Morricone who also picked up the Golden Globe for the same category this week.

The Hateful Eight is currently screening in limited cinemas exclusively in 70mm, before it is released nationally next Thursday — Check out our five-star review of the film here
