Griffin Theatre Company Reveal Their 2016 Season

The 2016 Griffin Theatre Company season has been announced, and features four mainstage productions, three special events and the Griffin Independent program.

Making up the special events is a co-production with Bell Shakespeare, The Literati, an adaptation of Moliére's Les Femmes Savantes by Justin Fleming, that brings the social satire into 21st century Australia. Starring Kate Mulvany, 27 May - 16 July.

As We Forgive by Tom Holloway features Robert Jarman as three men coming to terms with the realities of their lives. In this piece directed by Julian Meyrick, Jarman is accompanied on stage by a lone cellist, 11 - 21 May.

Tribunal is a conversation between artists, activists, lawyers, outlaws and the audience on the issues affecting the people of Western Sydney, created by Powerhouse Youth Theatre, and curated by Karen Therese. 12 - 20 August.

The mainstage productions for 2016 include Ladies Day, directed by Darren Yap, and written by Alana Valentine from interviews with the LGBTIQ community in Broome, presented in association with the Sydney Gay And Lesbian Mardi Gras, 5 February - 26 March.

Patrick White Playwrights' Award-winner Phillip Kavanagh's Replay explores the past and its effect on the future, 2 April - 7 May.

Benedict Andrews' new play Gloria will be helmed by Griffin Artistic Director Lee Lewis. Starring Marta Dusseldorp, 26 August - 8 October.

The Turquoise Elephant, written by Stephen Carleton and directed by Gale Edwards, is a piece of political farce about a rapidly crumbling world, and the people helping and hindering it, and was the recipient of the 2015 Griffin Award, 14 October - 26 November.

The Griffin Independent program features a new play by Reg Cribb (Last Cab To Darwin), Thomas Murray And The Upside Down River, 13 - 30 Jan; fresh from a sell-out Perth season, Those Who Fall In Love Like Anchors Dropped Upon The Ocean Floor by Finegan Kruckemeyer, 20 July - 6 August; and Lighten Up by Bollywood actor Nicholas Brown and comedian Sam McCool, 30 November - 17 December.
