New theatre space opens with disturbing murder tale

Inspired by actual events, Don't Look Away Theatre and Blancmange Productions set the stage for a disturbing story of the sexual assault and murder of 14-year-old girl at a party with A Property Of The Clan. It's the being staged at the Blood Moon Theatre, the first production in the newly created Kings Cross theatre space, located within The World Bar.

At a time when victim blaming is at the helm of social discussion, the contemporary relevance of this production seems unrivalled. Following a group of teens directly affected by the tragedy, the stage show explores the ideas of responsibility for action and justice as consequence. Director Phillip Rouse explains that "A Property Of The Clan examines the psychology of victim-blaming and rests the responsibility of action firmly on the boys and men in a world of rising violence against women".

Performers will both create and destroy the set during the performance, painting their childhood memories on a perspex backdrop before finally destroying it to symbolize the loss of innocence that takes place when one is subjected to a traumatic event.

The production opens 30 September and runs until 17 October at The Blood Moon Theatre, Kings Cross.
