Adele Blocks Coldplay From #1 Debut On ARIA Charts

It seems Adele mania is still in full swing, with her new record, 25, remaining at #1 on the ARIA Albums Charts, a placing that has blocked fellow British act Coldplay from the top prize.

It’s the third consecutive week that Adele has held the position, and this follows on from the Londoner’s new album going multi-platinum shortly after its release and breaking a 15-year US record.

Coldplay’s seventh studio album, A Head Full Of Dreams, was vying for #1, but couldn’t take down the pop goddess in their quest and debuted at #2.

It’s a mirror image of the UK charts this week where Adele’s 25 blocked A Head Full of Dreams from a local #1.

As expected by mid-week figures, Perth singer Troye Sivan’s new record, Blue Neighbourhood, placed well at #6, and was the only other debut in the top 10.

The debut album from the Perth hitmaker also made an appearance in the UK charts this week, debuting at #43.

Michael Buble's 2011 holiday album aptly titled Christmas holds steady at #3 and was just one of many festive releases that made an appearance.

Rounding out the album debuts, Cryus’ self-titled record came in at #14 debut and US rapper G-Eazy's When It's Dark Out saw a #36 debut and Roy Orbison’s record One Of The Lonely Ones (#48).

Aussie hip-hop legends Hilltop Hoods landed the highest debut on the Singles Chart this week with Higher, featuring James Chatburn, debuting at #9, while fellow Aussie artists Chet Faker with Marcus Marr's Work came in at #47.
