Espy Finally Given The Green Light To Commence Renovations

It's on its way back.

St Kilda's iconic live music spot The Esplanade Hotel has finally been cleared to commence renovations after the venue was forced to close indefinitely last month due to a number of objections to the proposed works.

As Herald Sun reports, Port Phillip councillors voted unanimously on Wednesday night in favour of the renovations, which includes a brand new rooftop terrace.

The Espy originally closed on 8 May with the aim to re-open in time for summer, however a number of complaints by locals halted renovations, which included concerns of noise levels and drunken behaviour.

The permit has  been approved with the condition of a live music ban on the rooftop terrace, which also must have a retractable roof that is closed at 10pm every day.
