Former Stone Temple Pilots Frontman Scott Weiland Dead At 48

According to a number of reports Scott Weiland, former frontman of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver has died. He was 48 years old. 

As TMZ reports, the singer was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota, though the cause of death is yet to be confirmed. 

Weiland and his band The Wildabouts were scheduled to perform at the Medina Ballroom tonight, though the concert has since been cancelled. 

Weiland's official Facebook page confirmed the tragic news writing, "Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts."

"At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected."

Weiland was one of the founding members of STP in 1986, though he left the band in 2002. After performing in Velvet Revolver from 2003 to 2008, he rejoined STP in 2008, before leaving again in 2013. 

Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington took over singing duties upon Weiland's departure, before he also left the band last month, citing that he wanted to spend more time with his family and Linkin Park.

Weiland had a troubled history with drug use. In 1995, he was caught and convicted of buying crack cocaine and in 2007 he was arrested and charged with DIU.

A number of musicians and people close to Weiland have since tweeted about his untimely passing.
